102 – Enough!

Posted in Around Our Home by lwroffee on January 11, 2010

I took this photo last July from about the same position as I took the snowy scene in post 99.  I need warm weather.  No, make that hot weather.

94 – Leaf After the Rain

Posted in Around Our Home by lwroffee on November 28, 2009

We have had lots and lots of rainy weather recently.  A leaf on our drive is collecting water drops like most other things around here.

89 – Spring and Winter Heralds

Posted in Around Our Home by lwroffee on November 19, 2009

Forsythia bushes herald the coming of spring with brilliant yellow blooms in early April, at least in the Mid-Atlantic region.  It seems the also herald the end of autumn in mid-November with almost as brilliant leaves.  These are the same bushes in April and November.  They are about the only leaves left of the autumn season.

78 – Last Autumn Colors

Posted in Around Our Home by lwroffee on October 28, 2009

We have had a lot of rain recently and the fall colors are fading.  I went out around the neighborhood this afternoon with the goal of getting a close up of a colorful leaf or nicely arranged leaves on the ground.  All came out unremarkable.  I grabbed this shot on my way home.  I think it is about the last.

73 – Fall Colors II

It was finally a nice sunny day here in Maryland and I had time to visit Seneca State Park looking for some fall colors.

61 – Early Morning Sun

Posted in Around Our Home by lwroffee on September 15, 2009

I really should make it a point to get up earlier.  Dawn and the early morning sunlight are perfect for photography.  It’s the night-owl in me that hinders early morning wake-ups.  I suppose retirement has a bit to do with it also.  I had to take my wife to the train this morning at O’dark thirty, and got this image of the woods behind our house.

46 – Sunset

Posted in Around Our Home by lwroffee on August 31, 2009

Just about sunset time I like to head down to the end of our street.  There is a chance I can catch a decent sunset looking west down the road into our neighborhood.  Today, with low humidity the last rays were a nice gold color.  The magic time for photos.

7 – After the Thunder Storm

Posted in Flora by lwroffee on July 23, 2009

We had a few, much needed, thunder storms today.  The afternoon sun peaked out for a while, and I went out with the 30D and a wide angle lens.  Sun and leave and trees are always pretty.  I wish the sky had been a deeper blue, but another storm was approaching.  And, there is now more thunder near so I had better shut this computer down.  I don’t trust the trusty surge protector.

5 – Peaking Through the Trees at Some Color

Posted in Flora by lwroffee on July 21, 2009
Color through the branches

Color through the branches

A splash of color through the tree branches.  I would have preferred a better angle with a clear fore ground, but……..you take what you can get.  This was in our neighborhood late in the evening.  I had the 100-400 mm lens on the 5D.  I have concluded that I need to use at least a monopod when using that lens.  One just cannot take a sharp photo at 400 mm hand held.
